The Governance Code Supporting Documents Pack

The Charities Regulatory Authority was formally established in October 2014 – an exciting and positive step for the charity sector in Ireland.  And the great news?  You still have time to ensure your organisation is fully prepared for Charity Regulation in the coming months!

To help you, The Wheel has developed an exclusive document resource pack - absolutely free for Members of The Wheel!

The pack was created to assist organisations working toward compliance with the Governance Code for Community, Voluntary & Charitable Organisations, and contains a comprehensive range of over 30 sample and template documents. Click here to download a full A-Z list of the available documents and their corresponding Governance Code sections.

How to Access the Pack

Skills Building

The Wheel’s training and events are developed to meet the needs of the community and voluntary sector. Subjects covered in our workshops include: Governance, Fundraising, Marketing & Social Media, HR & Employment Law, Management and Leadership and much more. 

In 2015 we hosted 166 workshops, meetings and events / conferences across Ireland, with more than 5,000 attendees from across the Irish community and voluntary sector.

And remember, our members get big discounts on The Wheel's training and networking events. 

Tailored Training and Support Services

Members can access telephone and email support and meet with our team to discuss any facet of running your organisation, as well as the wider issues affecting our sector. Additionally, The Wheel also provides onsite tailored training services to community, voluntary and charitable organisations in the areas of: Governance; Strategic Planning; Income Diversification & Fundraising; Risk Management; and Communications.

Wheel.ie is home a number of essential practical information resources for the Irish community and voluntary sector, including:

Fundingpoint

The Wheel's online database of funding courses provide comprehensive data for more than 840 funding grants to which Irish comunity and voluntary groups may apply. The funding grants listed on Fundingpoint come from all types of funders, including government, statutory, trusts and foundations, corporate philanthropy and EU sources. The Fundingpoint database also lists dozens of deadlines for the coming weeks and months, allowing you to stay on top of your application schedule. Members of The Wheel are entitled to a 40% discount on the cost of subscribing to Fundingpoint. 

Resourcepoint 

A new group purchasing initiative from The Wheel to help our members to save money and reduce their costs and overheads. ResourcePoint provides you with unbeatable deals and offers in all the key areas of running a non-profit and we are pleased to save that the savings it has already secured for our members are well into six-figures.

Non-profit Insurance 

An increasingly important aspect of good governance is protecting organisations against the myriad of risks to which they are exposed. See our new comprehensive insurance offering from BHP Insurances, exclusive to members, designed to keep your non-profit secure and protected from the inevitable risks that we all face.

Helpdesk / Support 

This part of the Wheel.ie website guides organisations through the various responsibilities that they face, including: how to establish a charity; governance and regulation; communications & technology; finance and accounting, etc.

Policy Issues

This section of Wheel.ie reflects our daily advocacy and research work by providing comprehensive information and guidance on such issues as: the sector relationship with Government; sector efforts to deal with the current economic crisis; various supports and services available to the sector, etc. 

Jobs & Volunteering Opportunities

The Wheel provides a valuable community service through it's free listings of jobs and volunteering opportunities for people in the Irish community and voluntary sector. This service represents yet another way The Wheel is assisting the sector in dealing with the worst effects of the current crisis. 

 

Stay Informed On the Big Issues

Members have access to a wide selection of information services and publications, including NewsWheel (formerly Focalpoint), our monthly e-newsletter for members, good practice guides, covering themes such as Governance, Resource and Risk Management.

Make Your Voice Heard

Members can influence Government policy as it affects the community and voluntary sector. We advocate for the shared interests of our members and the wider community and voluntary sector across national and international fora, including the Community and Voluntary Pillar. 

Feedback to Our Board

The Wheel is eager to strengthen and develop channels of accountability between our members and the Board. To that end we are pleased to introduce our new Board Member Accountability Policy, which includes the following new provisions:

  1. The Board will report to members twice a year about progress being made in implementing The Wheel's 'Being the Change' strategy.
  2. Members will be invited to provide their feedback directly to the Board (via a dedicated email address: boardofdirectors@wheel.ie and at our member forums across the country).
  3. Feedback and comments received by the board will be recorded and reviewed annually by the board.
