Charity Trustees - Board Roles and Responsibilities: Athlone - 16 November 2017

Charity regulation has a direct impact on everyone working in the Irish community and voluntary sector, requiring greater transparency and best practice from us all. 

Inevitably, however, the buck must stop somewhere - and, in accordance with the Charites Act 2009, it is the Trustees / Governors of a charity that must ultimately take responsibility for the observation and enactment of key regulatory frameworks in their non-profits.

This engaging evening event will ensure that trustees are fully informed and have the confidence and relevant knowledge they need to make a firm decision.

Learning Focus

Topics that be covered include:

• Understanding the key regulatory frameworks for charities, including an overview of the:
  
     - Charities Act 2009
     - Companies Act 2014
     - Lobbying Act 2015.
   
• An introduction to the Governance Code, incorporating:
  
     - An understanding the 5 Principles of the Governance Code
     - An understanding of the value and importance of the Governance Code for their organisation and also for the community and voluntary sector.

Ensuring that all of the trustees of your charity are fully up to speed on what this actually entails is essential to the smooth and proper operation of every non-profit these days.

Note: this event will include tea and sandwiches for all attendees, to facilitate networking and connection building at the highest level.

Trainer: Mairead O'Connor (Training & Advice Coordinator, The Wheel)

Mairead O'Connor joined The Wheel in November 2016 as Training and Advice Coordinator. She coordinates the advice and capacity-building support services we provide to our members. As well as driving and supporting the overall training programme delivered by The Wheel, Mairead facilitates groups in various programmes and can deliver a variety of Wheel training for members. 

 

Mairead comes to us after spending the past 5 years in a training and development role in Grey Heron Media, working closely with Craol - The Community Radio Forum of Ireland coordinating a nationwide QQI certified Training initiative. She is also an award winning radio documentary producer.
