Question

Hi all, I am starting work shortly on a piece of theatre. Wondering has anyone any advice on funding? Not giving too much information right now because it's very early stages but I would be considering putting it on as a fringe production in 2017.

Well, undoubtedly the first

Well, undoubtedly the first port of call is to check with The Arts Council, to see if there are any suitable schemes you can avail of.  www.artscouncil.ie

Similarly, a lot of local councils have an arts grant that may be of use to you.

I would start with those avenues of inquiry and see how you get on. Feel free to then email me (paul@wheel.ie) if you require additional info.

Good luck!

Am aware of the arts council funding but also that it's practucally impossible to get.. Was looking for options outside of that, will try local councils and see can I get anywhere...

Thanks again,

If you haven't applied for

If you haven't applied for Arts Council funding, I strongly advise you to at least explore it (they even have theatre-specific grants). The truth is that all grants are hard to get in this day and age, as the competition for them is fierce. Give them a call and they will be happy to chat and advise you, I'm quite sure.

I don't know where you are based, but here's an example of the sort of county council arts grants I was referring to: http://www.dublincityartsoffice.ie/supporting-communities/apply-for-funding-support/current-calls

The only directly theatre-related grants I know of is here (which may not be suitable, based on the youth focus): http://www.nayd.ie/resources/supports

There are probably some additional (more 'generic') funds, like say, The Ireland Funds, that have a wider arts-focus in part, that you could also keep an eye on. But start with the above and see how you get on first, I'd strongly advise.

Thanks,

Paul
