With more and more state funding now being allocated using competitive tendering approaches, it is important to understand the difference between traditional grant-style funding and the competitive approach. 

This workshop is designed to enable you to succeed in making strong bids to secure the funds that deliver the outcomes that procurers are seeking.

In particular, this workshop will look at:

  • An overview of public procurement rules and regulations
  • How this policy impacts on community & voluntary organisations
  • The key procedures used by public bodies – primarily open or restricted tendering
  • The key steps and the documentation required to successfully compete
  • Understanding the key components:
    • Selection criteria
    • Award criteria
    • Specifications
  • Considerations – partnership / collaboration with other organisations
  • Understanding eTenders – the national procurement website.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the workshop, attendees will:

  • Have more understanding of the public procurement process
  • Will have an understanding of the actions organisations need to take in readiness for tendering
  • Have a simple tool to determine whether or not to tender
  • Have a checklist to support improved tendering.

Facilitator: Andy Burke - Director, Training & Business Development, Achilles Procurement Services

Any BurkePrior to joining Achilles Procurement Services, Andy joined the Military Cadet School in 1999 where he rose to the rank of Commandant. He was also head of ordnance procurement responsible for the effective procurement of clothing, defence equipment and field catering needs in addition to managing Real Life Support demands of the Irish Defence Forces.

With over 13 years experience as a public procurement expert, Andy provides training, guidance and strategic business development at Achilles Procurement Services.
As a trainer and a consultant, Andy is passionate about the key role that strategic procurement can play in organisations realising significant improvements and how procurement is a critical component of any organisation, big or small.
