Mentoring Opportunities for Members of The Wheel - Summer 2024

The growing complexity of organisations is increasing the pressures on executive managers leading to mounting stress. Workloads mount up, making it increasingly difficult to set priorities and to focus on them. Mentoring assists executives to take control of their working life and to fulfil their own and their organisation’s potential.

Benefits of Mentoring

Mentoring is a process of accompaniment that enables the mentee to have someone with whom to share their concerns in confidence, and who is outside the team or organisation. It is often used when the client is in transition, e.g. taking on a new post or following a promotion to a senior level.

A mentor is a person of significant experience who can assist the mentee through informed questioning, sharing personal experience and insights as appropriate, but always in a manner that is empowering. The mentor uses an “ask, don’t tell” approach. It is not about giving gratuitous advice or recommending courses of action.

Beginning in Summer 2024 the mentoring programme for individual CEOs, Senior Managers and Board Chairs will be carried out over six to eight months.

Programme Format

The mentoring programme consists of five monthly sessions of up to ninety minutes duration each. In the initial session we get to know each other, establish the mentee's expectations of the process, agree a number of goals to guide the conversations, and get an overview of the situation.

The following sessions take each goal in turn. After the third session we check to see if we are still on course, or have other important issues arisen. After the fifth session we take stock. At that point most mentees move on. Some may ask for a couple of more sessions. Others check in from time to time. It's a safe space to go to when required.
