Posted on 14 Oct 2024

On behalf of Front Line Defenders - The International Foundation for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders invites you to attend the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders at Risk at Dublin Castle on Wednesday, 23 October 2024 at 09:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Registration will start at 8:00 a.m, so please arrive before 9:00 a.m. to register, as the conference starts at 9:00 a.m. sharp. To note: all Opening Ceremony guests must leave Dublin Castle by 11:00 a.m.

Deadline to confirm attendance is now 17 October 2024.

As you may know, the Dublin Platform brings together over 300 people from approximately 90 countries. Of these people, Front Line Defenders invites 100 human rights defenders (HRDs) at risk, and the other participants come from an array of national, international and intergovernmental organisations working with and for human rights defenders at risk.

The 2024 Dublin Platform for Human Rights Defenders at Risk will provide a truly unique opportunity for human rights defenders, from every corner of the globe, to come together to share experiences, learn from one another, discuss relevant issues and further their understandings of the mechanisms that are available to them at the international level. It will discuss topics such as the patterns of attacks against human rights defenders and practical measures to ensure their protection, including discussions on the specific risks faced by human rights defenders in the context of conflicts as well as risks faced by HRDs online.

Over the years, we have had a very high calibre of speakers join us at this event and this year is no exception. At this Dublin Platform we have invited the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk to give keynote addresses at the opening ceremony and we are delighted that Mary Lawlor, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, Olof Skoog, EU Special Representative for Human Rights, as well as Michael O'Flaherty, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe, will join us.
