As CEO, you will oversee the overall management of the charity, ensuring the successful implementation of their strategic objectives and guiding their employees with strong leadership. You will represent Men’s Aid with professionalism, promoting ethical behaviour and fostering a positive, engaged workplace culture. This role requires a leader who can build relationships with key stakeholders and funders, continually enhancing the charity’s reputation and impact. This role reports to the Chairperson and the Board of Directors. 

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP AND OPERATIONS 

The CEO is responsible for providing strategic leadership by collaborating with the Board of Directors and Men’s Aid employees to establish, implement and oversee the goals, strategies, plans and policies of the charity. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Leadership and Strategy: Lead the development and execution of Men’s Aid’s strategic objectives, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s vision and mission. Work with the Board to create long-term plans that advance the charity’s impact and sustainability.
  • Effective Operations: Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of Men’s Aid, maintaining the highest standards of service delivery and operations. Oversee the effective management of financial budgets and resources to ensure financial stability and sustainability.

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

1. Operations, Governance, Risk, and Policies

The CEO is responsible for leading the development and implementation of corporate and charity governance practices to ensure Men’s Aid adheres to the highest standards of governance and full compliance with CRA codes and requirements. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Governance and Website Management: Oversee and ensure the Men’s Aid website is regularly updated, accurately reflecting the Board of Directors and committee activities.
  • Risk Management: Lead the creation, maintenance, and oversight of the Charity’s risk register, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory bodies. Implement effective risk awareness and management systems across Men’s Aid.
  • Policy Development and Compliance: Ensure that fit-for-purpose policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices are developed and implemented within Men’s Aid. Ensure these are well understood by all employees. Approve operational policies and procedures prior to implementation, subject to Board agreement as appropriate.
  • Policy Updates and Oversight: Regularly review and ensure that up-to-date, fit-for-purpose policies are in place across all key areas, including service delivery, finance, governance, and human resources.
  • Health and Safety Management: Develop and enforce the Health and Safety Policy, ensuring it is fully complied with across the organisation. Lead regular safety drills and ensure that all employees are aware of and adhere to emergency procedures.

2. Employees/Workforce Management

The CEO is responsible for the day-to-day effective management, stewardship, performance management, and development of Men’s Aid’s workforce. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Recruitment and Compliance: Ensure the recruitment policy is adhered to when hiring new staff members at Men’s Aid, ensuring a fair, transparent, and efficient recruitment process.
  • Positive Working Environment: Foster and maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive work environment for all employees, promoting employee well-being and engagement.
  • Leadership and Management: Implement effective leadership strategies to ensure operational efficiency, with clear organisational systems, processes, and practices that align with Men’s Aid’s goals.
  • Employee Well-being and Culture: Create and maintain a workplace culture that promotes the well-being of employees and aligns with the needs of individuals accessing Men’s Aid services.
  • Performance Management: Monitor, evaluate, and manage employee performance, effectiveness, and efficiency through structured performance management systems.
  • Employee Relations: Maintain a healthy and constructive employee relations climate, addressing employee concerns appropriately.
  • Training and Development: Oversee and ensure the implementation of education and development programs for staff, fostering ongoing professional growth and skill enhancement.
  • HR Management: Ensure effective HR functions are in place, including the development and regular updating of HR policies, procedures, job descriptions, and person profiles to reflect current practices.
  • Handling Complaints and Discipline: Manage complaints in line with organisational procedures, ensuring thorough investigations and the appropriate documentation of outcomes. Ensure HR policies are followed in disciplinary matters, maintaining accurate records and correspondence.

3. Board Support and Business Planning

The CEO plays a critical role in supporting the operation and administration of the Board of Directors and its committees. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Advisory Role: Provide timely and accurate advice to the Chair and Board members on relevant matters to ensure informed decision-making.
  • Meeting Attendance: Attend all Board of Directors and committee meetings, present update on all appropriate matters and ensure that decisions made by the Board and committees are implemented effectively.
  • Board Pack Preparation: Ensure the preparation and distribution of a comprehensive board pack for Board and committee meetings, containing all relevant materials, reports, and updates.
  • Annual Report and Business Plan: Oversee the preparation of a draft annual report for the Board of Directors, summarising achievements and key developments. Prepare a draft annual business plan for submission to the Board of Directors and/or designated committees for review and approval.

4. ICT, Procurement, and Contracts

The CEO is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and management of ICT systems, procurement, and contracts. Specific responsibilities include:

  • IT Systems and Data Management: Provide strategic direction for the maintenance and development of all IT systems, electronic data management, and associated hardware and software, ensuring alignment with Men’s Aid’s operational needs.
  • Service and Maintenance Contracts: Oversee all service and maintenance contracts, ensuring that these contracts are monitored and renewed as necessary. Advise the Board of Directors regarding contract renewals and ensure that the appropriate process is followed. When tenders are required, prepare the tender document for Board approval and ensure that at least three tenders are sought for competitive evaluation.
  • Procurement Compliance: Ensure that all procurement activities are conducted in accordance with best practices and adhere to the specific requirements set by Men’s Aid’s funders.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Third level qualification, BA or Masters in Management, Business Studies, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in a senior management role.
  • Proven experience in employee management, team leadership and the successful implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Strong financial acumen with a proven ability to make informed business decisions based on financial analysis.

  • Team Building: Strong team-building skills to foster collaboration and ensure effective teamwork.
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making: Strong problem-solving abilities with sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Planning, Organising, and Time Management: Strong planning, organisational, and time-management skills to ensure effective delivery of objectives.
  • Client/Customer Focus: A strong focus on delivering high-quality services to clients and stakeholders.

OTHER ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Full Clean Driving License: Possession of a full clean driving license and access to a car.
  • Legislative Knowledge: A strong understanding of legislation impacting Men’s Aid.
  • Knowledge of Domestic Abuse: Familiarity with recent studies, reviews, and reports specific to domestic abuse.
  • IT Proficiency: Strong IT skills and comfort in using databases and other relevant software.

SALARY, BENEFITS AND LOCATION 

  • Salary: €65,000 - €75,000 per annum, depending on experience (DOE).
  • Annual Leave: 20 days per year.
  • Hybrid Working: 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.
  • Hours: 35 hours per week.
  • Free Parking: Available on-site.
  • Location: St Anne’s Resource Centre CLG, Railway Street, Navan, Co. Meath.
