Core Meath

Core Ireland is a community-based, volunteer-led initiative situated in Navan, County Meath, Ireland. We act as a hub that connects with and provides services for the community, local charities, and worthwhile causes. We do this by focusing on individual projects that will help restore a real sense of community bringing people and organizations together to address issues in areas such as mental health, community development, poverty, and social inclusion.

What is your goal? 

The alleviation of poverty by acting as a hub that connects people to organisations for the public benefit, particularly in the county of Meath, all of which will be available for free. 

How have you been working towards it? 

Food Bank: - We have been operating a Food Bank under the Nourish project "Filling Plates, Fuelling Spirits, Connecting Community". Anyone who contacts us requesting help with food receives a parcel that will last approximately a week.  Community Magazine: - We publish a bi-monthly magazine that covers many subject matters such as; what's on in Meath; Profiles of new businesses opening up; Physical health and wellbeing; Highlighting other community groups and their work; Highlighting where there is help in the community and where you can take on further education; Personal articles from volunteers; Tackling subjects such as Biodiversity, Sustainable Development Goals, The youth of Meath, Mental health and wellbeing during Covid-19; and much much more.  Under Development: - We are developing a youth project that will provide alternative training and education in the technical subjects and entrepreneurship for young unemployed, early school leavers, youth in Post-Secondary Education, and youth involved in anti-social behavior. 

How has being a member of The Wheel helped? 

Under The Wheel membership, we have access to a list of Funding sources that we would not otherwise be able to access. We also attend training and educational webinars that help us improve our compliance with regulations.

Do you have any success stories to share? 

We were recently awarded Social Inclusion Category winner under Meath County Council's Community Wellbeing Initiative.  We have previously been awarded Not for Profit Organisation of the Year 2016.
