Charities Regulator Issues Guidance on Charities Amendment Act
In 2024 the Charities Amendment Act was signed into law. This is an important piece of legislation that makes a number of regulatory updates to the Charities Act, and while it will broadly be business-as-usual for registered charities, there are a number of revisions that our members should be mindful of.
The Charities Regulator has issued a helpful overview of the key changes which are expected to be implemented in the coming months, as each section of the act is commenced.
The guidance clearly breaks down the significant changes under the below headings, giving a brief explanation in real terms what the changes are expected to mean, and how the Regulator will support charities to fulfil any new obligations:
- Registration
- Definition of a Charity Trustee and their duties and obligations
- Financial regulations
- Agreements and appointments
- Annual report
- Charity services functions.
The guidance is available to view here.
The Regulator confirmed it will issue further guidance in the months to come to support charities in addressing these changes and we will continue to keep our members updated when published.
