ADAPT #DiscussAI Think-Ins Workshop, 17 Feb
ADAPT's education and public engagement (EPE) team are hosting a stakeholder workshop to establish some themes that are concerning the public around the future of AI. We want to hear form all members of the public, including all civic society, industry, academia, policymakers and individuals.
Join us in the workshop to explore what AI means to us and its impact on society. The workshops will bring together collaborators from a wide range of backgrounds to explore the question: “What impact does Artificial Intelligence have on me and my life?” Together, we will define the concepts and themes we wish to explore with the wider public in 2022.
The EPE team will use these themes to design some scenarios which we will use to start discussions in our Citizens' Think-Ins. These scenarios highlight the development of AI, the work that ADAPT researchers are doing, and the concerns that the public may have.
The workshop is on the 17 February, 11.00-12.30 and you can sign up via Zoom here. We're hoping to run the event as a Hybrid event, here on DCU and on Zoom, you're welcome to attend in whichever way suit you better.
What is a Citizens' Think-In? They are 1.5-hour events where members of the public meet with each other and with our researchers to discuss a situation caused by the development of AI. At the start of every Think-In a guest speaker, or speakers, will give a quick overview of the topic to be discussed that day ensuring that everyone has the same starting point for the conversation, no matter their background or previous knowledge. We then break into smaller groups to discuss the scenarios for about 45 mins and we come back together at the end to compare the topics that arose during each discussion. The aim of these Citizens' Think-Ins is to give the public a chance to share their opinions on the future direction of the research while giving the researchers a chance to explore their ideas with a public audience.
