Building Sustainable Relationships and Resolving Conflict

Where do we go and who and what do we become when dealing with Conflict?

Free Zoom Webinar on Thursday, 14 December 7pm.

This may sound like it is stating the obvious, but have you ever noticed that conflict never gets rid of conflict, but rather simply adds to it?

Retaliation, revenge and escalation are not useful responses in trying to make the situation and the relationship better.

Yet we don’t seem to learn from history in dealing with conflict, but rather we tend to repeat it in well-travelled and very unsuccessful ways.

This suggests that our responses are often governed by the conflict rather than the conflict is governed by our conscious and constructive responses to it.

For whom and what do we become when faced with conflict in our lives and in our many and multi-faceted relationships from personal, to family, to work, to school, to community, to nationhood, creed, religion, gender all the way down to our relationship with our shared Host Planet Earth and all the other species that we share it with?

As Shakespeare said somewhat ironically perhaps from the play – Much Ado About Nothing.

All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,

What part of ourselves are we playing when faced with conflict:

The Victim or The Perpetrator, The Rescuer or The Rescued

The Avenger or Revenger, The Bridge Builder or The Bridge Destroyer

The Retaliator or the Forgiver, The Denier or the Apologiser

The Merciless or the Merciful, The Healer or the Hurter

The Judge, Jury and Jailer and Punisher and Enforcer or

The Peacemaker, The Mediator, the Co-operator?

And many more.

Are we being our true selves when we go to one or many of these places or are we in fact playing a role not of our own conscious choosing?

It is curious that REACTOR and CREATOR are anagrams of each other – the same letters just arranged differently to mean completely different things.

Which one are we being in building sustainable relationships and resolving conflict when it occurs?

Are we REACTING to and from the past or are we CREATING a future that is different to the past we are emerging from?

In this free Zoom webinar we shall be exploring the role of roles within conflict and how we can make better and more conscious choices about which ones we play and thus change what’s at play within the Play, the parts that we the characters play and the outcome at the end of it.

All are welcome.
