Remote Learning: Trauma Informed Practice Workshop

Posted on 3 Sep 2024

Dates: 14 and 15 November 2024

Times: 09:30 - 16:30 (CET-1)

This Trauma Informed Practice workshop aims to help people working in the provision of care to become trauma aware. The workshop does not train participants to become trauma therapists.

The purpose of this two day training is to start a conversation about how trauma and adversity affects and has affected those who use the services we provide and the appropriate responses we can implement and offer; to reflect on how others’ trauma experiences may affect those of us providing services – vicarious trauma and; to examine how we, as professionals, volunteers and peer workers, can embrace a trauma informed approach, including self-care, within our practice.

The course will allow you to interact with the trainer and other participants. In addition to the workshop content, there will be time built in for live discussions, question & answer sessions and skills practice. This workshop is open to individuals and can also be delivered as in-house training to groups.

Participants should have some work experience.  Suitable for: Therapists and Counsellors (please note: this is not designed for experienced therapists), early childhood Educators and Care Professionals and those working in Social Care, Youth and Family Care, Nursing Practitioners, Addiction Services and Homeless Agencies.

This training is also suitable for those working with or meeting service users including support staff, reception staff, canteen staff, managers, Board of Management etc.

Members of The Psychological Society of Ireland and The Addiction Counsellors of Ireland can earn learning credits/CPD points for participating in the workshop.

“I really appreciated that Gary was so personable, respectful and down to earth. He encouraged everyone to speak and was supportive throughout. I appreciated Gary’s delivery which was accessible and contained stories which made it more relatable and real. The content was relevant and delivered in plain English! I enjoyed the virtual tour of the building, the use of images, the focus on self-care and much more.”

Phyllis Jordan, Senior Speech and Language Therapist, HSE Community Healthcare West, March 2023

"The training was very beneficial for my line of work and on a personal level as well!  It was very well structured with the right balance of written information, visuals and practical/group exercises. I would definitely recommend this training and would do it as a refresher again, if opportunity presents."
