SERVE volunteers climb Ireland's highest provincial mountains in solidarity with developing communities
Our brave volunteers recently climbed Ireland's highest provincial mountains all in the same weekend of 24 - 26 June to raise funds for our work in Asia and Africa. We support developing communities abroad to aid them in standing on their own two feet, and this challenge is a metaphor for the uphill struggle faced by millions around the world in living a dignified life.
Despite the rainy weather, our volunteers climbed Carrantoohill on Friday afternoon before travelling to Co. Mayo to prepare for climbing Mweelrea the following morning. The same day, they arrived for a night of glamping in Co. Down and climbed Slieve Donard on Sunday morning. On Sunday afternoon, they travelled to Co. Wicklow to complete the challenge by climbing Lugnaquilla and enjoying a celebratory party in the Glenmalure Lodge.
Our volunteers are taking a well-deserved day of rest and recouperation. We cannot thank each and every one of them enough for their fantastic efforts this past weekend. The money that they have helped to raise will go towards empowering people in developing communities to climb up their own mountains every day.
