Join us for a special in-person end of year meeting of The Wheel’s members in Galway and the west on Thursday, 12 December, 12-2pm. Meet our CEO Ivan Cooper to review the year and the impact of our work. Get the latest sector updates, network with other community organisations and charities in the region and share the great work you are doing.
Colette Bennett, will provide an update on how our ‘Future is Community’ advocacy campaign, addressing key issues affecting the community and voluntary sector, has fared in the Local, European, and General Elections this year
We want to give you, our members, the opportunity, over a light lunch, to network with other community organisations, share the great work you are doing, and get expert advice and guidance from our staff team on the issues affecting your organisation including funding, advocacy, communications, leadership development, training and much more
The event is free but registration is essential.

Meet Your Speakers:
Ivan Cooper is The Wheel's Chief Executive Officer. In his previous role as Director of Public Policy, he was responsible for progressing The Wheel's policy positions on cross-cutting issues affecting the community and voluntary sector, such as charity regulation, funding the sector, encouraging active-citizenship, quality standards, and raising awareness of the role and significance of the sector.
Colette Bennett is The Wheel’s Director of Advocacy and Research, and has worked in senior advocacy and organisational development roles for 15 years. She has a Masters in Social Justice and Public Policy and is a member of the Royal Irish Academy Social Sciences Committee. She regularly lectures in universities and colleges across Ireland on social justice and public policy frameworks.
JOHNNY SHEEHAN is The Wheel’s Member Engagement Manager. He works to ensure all our members are supported to work more effectively at a local, regional and national level. Johnny supports the public policy team to represent our members’, and the wider sector’s, shared interests. He has more than 25 years’ experience working in the development, youth work and environmental sectors and have served as a trustee on a number of charity boards. Johnny has a Law Society certificate in Charity Law, Trusteeship and Governance.
Sharon Hughes is the Leadership Academy Manager in the Skills Team of The Wheel. Sharon has been involved in membership organisations for over 20 years. Before working for The Leadership Academy, she was C.E.O. of a nonprofit. Her background is managing member Events and Communications. Sharon is a qualified Coach, is a member of the Teaching Council of Ireland and is currently studying Psychology. She is low-key obsessed with Leadership.
