Mindfulness As a Toolkit in Helping to Build Resilience (online workshop)
Mindfulness As a Toolkit in Helping to Build Resilience (online workshop)
Discover the benefits of mindfulness and how to integrate simple practices into your daily routine to enhance mental clarity, focus and overall well-being.
Resilience can be defined as "the personal qualities that enable others to thrive in the face of adversity" (Connor and Davidson 2003, p 76, cited in Fletcher and Sarkar, 2013). "Resilience is a modifiable construct and therefore can be improved" (Southwick et al, 2011).
Research reports* that mindfulness - which means to intentionally focus on the ‘here and now’ without judgement - has shown beneficial effects on the mental and physical health of its participants.
The benefits of mindfulness can be categorised in the following three dimensions:
- Emotional benefits
- Interpersonal benefits and
- Intrapersonal benefits.
How?
Mindfulness in its simplest form comes down to accessing the present moment through breath and connection with ones senses: touch, taste, sound, sight, hearing.
When life is big, busy, intense, overwhelming and/or exciting one can often rush through it without observing the present moment.
With some mindfulness-based tools one can learn to enjoy life more and be kinder to oneself when things don’t go to plan.
In this session we will explore:
- Tools for accessing present moment awareness
- Tools that help one to navigating choppy waters using journaling
- How to build a practise of connecting in with the good in life; rewiring the brain for a balanced view of circumstances
- Breathing techniques that give access to equanimity and harmony helping one to drop out of the mind and into the physicality of the body (box breathing etc.).
*Excerpt from a Frontiers published article titled: ‘Effect of Physical Activity and Mindfulness on Resilience and Depression during the first wave of COVID-19 Pandemic'.
With some simple tools, we will explore how to live a more resilient day to day life more by being connected to the present moment. Alongside present moment awareness we will learn how to be more compassionate to ourselves when things don’t go to plan.
The end result? We cope better with adversity.

Deirdre Shanagher - Strategic Clinical Nurse Expert, Regulatory Compliance at Nursing Homes Ireland
“Helena has held mindfulness and creative team activities for my teams over the years. From onsite back in the day of Giddy Studios in Dundrum to virtual during COVID to in the office. Each time Helena has done an amazing job and the feedback from the teams has been fantastic. I look forward to many more events with Helena.” Susan Higgins - Director, Google
“Helena’s professionalism and warm personality is a winning combination for providing this wellness support for staff in the post-pandemic environment. Those who had experience or interest in mindfulness were able to access its benefits very quickly. Those who had no experience and might have been wary or sceptical were put at ease and could take part as little or as much as they wished." Carol Boate - National Lottery Regulator
