The Wheel's AGM & Panel Discussion - In-Person Attendees
Please join us for our AGM and a member-led panel discussion on Tuesday, 24 June in our offices at 48 Fleet St, Dublin 2, D02 T883.
The meeting will highlight some of The Wheel's performance and achievements in 2024, and allow attendees an opportunity to network with our trustees, staff and fellow members.
Immediately after the AGM, at 1pm, we are very pleased to host the panel discussion We Need To Talk About Politics led by our member, Women For Election. The panel will focus on the role community and voluntary organisations can play in positively influencing a diverse and inclusive policial environment.
Panelists will take us through their insights into the current political climate in Ireland and how we as nonprofits can positively influence for change. Facilitated by Sinead McSweeney, former VP of Global Public Policy with Twitter, we'll be joined on the panel by:
- Liz Carolan - Writer, Journalist and founder of Transparent Referendum Initative
- Edel McGinley - Executive Director with Hope and Courage Collective
- Brian Sheehan - CEO with Women For Election.

Meet our panel

Brian Sheehan has a wide background in social justice advocacy, campaigning and politics. He was the co-director of the Yes campaign in the 2015 same-sex marriage referendum and for a decade was the executive director of GLEN, one of the leading Irish LGBTI equality and advocacy organisations. He is a former co-chair of ILGA-Europe, the leading LGBTIQ+ members’ body. More recently, Brian was the general secretary of a political party before joining Women for Election to encourage and support more women to enter Irish politics.

Edel McGinley is Executive Director at Hope and Courage Collective, a national civil society organisation working with communities, workplaces, and institutions across Ireland to strengthen democracy and build collective resilience in the face of rising far-right hate and disinformation.

Liz Carolan is a campaigner and consultant working on technology and democracy; founder of Digital Action and publisher of TheBriefing.ie

Sinéad McSweeney is a former Global Vice President of Public Policy at Twitter and was also the managing director of Twitter’s international headquarters in Dublin between 2015 and 2022. She is a seasoned public policy and communications leader with over 20 years experience across the private and public sectors. She served as Director of Communications for both An Garda Síochána and the Police Service of Northern Ireland. Prior to taking up these communications roles, Sinéad held a number of political advisory positions in the Irish government, including as Special Adviser to the Attorney General and to the Minister for Justice. A native of Midleton, she studied law at University College Cork and qualified as a barrister in 1993. Sinéad is currently pursuing a Psychology degree in Trinity College Dublin
