Balmer Dawson Executive Search are thrilled to partner with The Friends of St. Luke’s in their search for a suitably qualified Head of Development to join their passionate team. The Friends of St Luke’s have recently undergone a strategic review to grow their organisation within the next 5 -10 years. In order to take a more sustainable and progressive approach to fundraising, they are seeking an individual to play an instrumental part in growing the organisation as they enter an exciting phase of their new strategic plan.

 

ABOUT

The Friends of St Luke’s (FOSL) is a registered charity established in 1981. Over four decades, it has provided a vital source of funding and support in the care, comfort and cure of the patients at St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network Dublin (SLRON) as well as clinical research at the St Luke’s Institute of Cancer Research. The St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network comprises three cancer treatment centres in Dublin – St Luke’s Hospital in Rathgar (including Oakland Lodge), St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Centre at St James’s Hospital and St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Centre at Beaumont Hospital. It is the largest Radiation network in Europe and the only place in Ireland for children to receive radiation treatment. 

 

THE PERSON

The Head of Development will report directly to the Executive Director and share collective responsibility with the team to deliver the organisation's new strategic vision. The role will appeal to a highly experienced and motivated, target driven, and compassionate individual with substantial fundraising and management experience. They will have experience of creating and delivering fundraising strategies and annual work plans displayed confidence with a flair for innovation. They must be a self-starter with high levels of drive and resilience with a flexible approach and a commitment to solution based working demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and direct all fundraising and donor communications operations to ensure existing and new business opportunities are developed and maximised.
  • Work with the Executive Director to develop a fundraising and revenue generation strategy to deliver net income targets.
  • Oversee the effective implementation of a sustainable strategy to deliver targets incorporating a diverse range of activities to include corporate partnerships, major donors, direct marketing, digital fundraising, individual giving, events, community fundraising, legacy and philanthropic giving.
  • Monitor and report on performance against KPI’s and adjust plans to ensure delivery across all areas.
  • Expand fundraising activities in new directions to ensure a sustainable, successful and diverse fundraising portfolio. Develop and submit proposals where required.
  • Ensure excellent supporter care is in place to achieve optimum supporter retention.
  • Ensure effectiveness and efficiency across all fundraising activity, maximizing return on investment.
  • Ensure all appropriate policies and procedures are in place to manage all public fundraising initiatives and ensure compliance with best practice and regulatory requirements. Manage expenditure budgets on an on-going basis ensuring all activity is implemented within agreed budgets.
  • Build relationships across the organisation with the Board, current supporters, patients & their families within SLRON’s (St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network) wider stakeholder network.
  • Represent the organisation externally at events, networking forums where required.
  • Ensure production and dissemination of creative and strategically aligned information and materials that raise awareness of The Friends of St Luke's, their work and their impact.
  • Ensure that all fundraising initiatives receive publicity and promotions through appropriate communication channels.
  • Foster a team culture that is target driven, encourages accountability and innovation and a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Participate in The Friends of St Luke's performance management system and engage in supervision and appraisals on a regular basis.
  • Accept, advance and pursue any new objectives or responsibilities that may be assigned by the Executive Director including transfer of existing duties and/or reassignment to other responsibilities should the organisation so require

 

CORE COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

  • Strong understanding of the charity sector and codes of practice in fundraising and governance in Ireland
  • Masters level 9 qualification ideally in Business / Marketing / Communications or relevant
  • 5+ years proven track record of success in senior leadership roles in a fundraising environment
  • Experience leading developing and motivating staff and volunteers
  • Experience in CRM management 
  • Experience in DM strategy and management 
  • Effective project management skills including planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Excellent analytical and commercial skills to identify and target new objectives
  • Broad generalist fundraising skills at senior level in legacy and major donors
  • Familiarity with non-profit finance and experience of developing and managing large scale budgets
  • Passionate about The Friends of St Luke’s mission and vision and have the ability to convey this to donors and supporters
  • Full, clean driver’s licence and access to own car
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly MS packages e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience of managing community fundraising programmes

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • Attractive salary of €70,000 pa
  • 25 days annual leave + 10 discretionary public holidays
  • Employer matched Pension Scheme of 7%, following 6-month probationary period
  • Health Cover  - health expenses reimbursed directly from The Friends of St. Luke’s
  • Paid Sick Leave entitlement on a phased basis following probation 
  • Parking available
  • Working hours  - 39 hours per week
  • Hybrid Policy – 1 day a week remote
