The incumbent will be a member of the DCM Senior Management Team with the prime responsibility of oversight and management of 3 older persons sites

HEAD OF OLDER PERSONS SERVICES - DUBLIN CENTRAL MISSION

FULL TIME, PERMANENT ROLE - 39 HOURS PER WEEK 5/7

Role Overview:

The Head of Older Persons Services will operate as a member of the DCM Senior Management Team with the prime responsibility of oversight and management of 3 older persons sites as set out below:

  • Mount Tabor Care Home (Base 1 day per week)
  • Margaretholme Independent Living (Base 2 days per week)
  • Ailt an Oir Independent Living (Base 2 days per week)

Key Requirements/Competencies:

  • Bsc Degree in Nursing essential; Desirable - Management Degree
  • Minimum of 10 Yrs experience in a hands-on, frontline management role, ideally within the Healthcare sector.
  • Have a nursing background and have worked at Director of Nursing Level for a number of years.
  • Familiarity of compliance requirements associated with the service including: Charity Regulator, Housing Regulator and HIQA.
  • Have a strong track record of achieving agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and meeting targets in line with the Operational and Strategic Plan and DCM’s overall mission, vison, values and goals.
  • Can demonstrate strong leadership skills, with a proven ability to lead and motivate whilst promoting a positive team ethos.
  • Can demonstrate flexibility, versatility, and an ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams through periods of change.
  • Can show a strong track record of monitoring service delivery to clients and initiating service improvements that have a positive impact on the service user experience.
  • Can maintain a high level of professionalism when working under pressure.
  • Has excellent people skills and an ability to communicate effectively, in a professional manner with a broad range of stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Experience in managing budgets, analysing, extracting data and report writing.
  • Can demonstrate a strong understanding of the Healthcare and Housing/Social Services Sector.
  • A full clean drivers licence and own transport is required for this role.

Responsibilities:

Business Planning & Oversight

  • As part of the Senior Management Team be involved in Annual Business Planning, Budgets and KPI’s for the Older Persons Services.
  • Provide Service Reports as required for the Senior Management Team, Board, and relevant sub-committees.

Operational / Clinical Management

  • Act as line manager for the management and staff associated with the Older Persons Services and the Quality Function.
  • Hold weekly and monthly service meetings and report on same to the Senior Management Team.
  • Oversee all operational activity and make recommendations for service improvement and efficiency.
  • Provide clinical governance for Mount Tabor Care Centre and for the HSE Care Hours Services that run in the Independent Living Sites.
  • Oversee the Day Service that runs as part of the Ailt an Oir Services.
  • Ensure the quality function is progressing the audit schedule, following through on actions, training staff and promoting a culture of best practice on our sites.
  • Drive operational projects that may involve the role out of new systems to enhance services.
  • Work alongside the Operations Manager and Facilities Manager who will support the non-clinical functions on the sites (namely IT, Property Maintenance, Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Catering and Housekeeping).
  • Liaise with the facilities manager on void management to ensure apartments in the Independent Living sites have high levels of occupancy.
  • Ensure residents are supported to live in a holistic environment within our services.
  • Deal with any complaints that may arise and are assigned for review.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Oversee HIQA regulatory compliance and ensure action plans are in place and followed through within the required timeframe.
  • Ensure all staff are trained in the areas required to do their job and recommend any supplementary training that may be required to enhance service delivery.
  • Oversee policy management for all sites ensuring that policies are maintained, updated and communicated with staff to ensure effective operations.
  • Assist with submissions required for statutory bodies (Charity and Housing Regulator and HIQA) as required.

Communications

  • Liaise with external organisations including but not limited to the HSE, HIQA, Housing Bodies and other organisations, as required.
  • Develop inter-agency working relationships with appropriate organisations locally.
  • Present effectively at Senior Management and Board Meetings as required.
  • Always work with the understanding of the organisations ethos and Christian values creating a supportive team culture.

DCM is in the midst of a phase of expansion with 3 further services planned for takeover in the coming year. This role is an exciting opportunity for the right person to join DCM and have an impact on our services.Further sites may come under the remit of the post holder in the future.
