Play Therapist & Emotional Support Coordinator

The successful candidate will ensure successful delivery of Hand in Hand’s Emotional Support Services for families impacted by childhood cancer, nationwide.

Job Purpose:

The Play Therapist & Emotional Support Coordinator will provide therapeutic support to children and families impacted by a childhood cancer diagnosis. They will coordinate and work closely with community-based therapists and counsellors, enabling the organisation to provide Emotional Support Services on a national scale and in a location convenient to the families we work with. They will identify and assess new opportunities for support services to collaborate and strengthen the network of suitably skilled therapists and counsellors throughout Ireland to ensure a professional and effective service for families accessing support. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and ensure successful delivery of Hand in Hand’s Emotional Support Services for families impacted by childhood cancer, nationwide. 
  • Offer individual play therapy sessions. 
  • Offer parental/guardian support sessions as necessary to families registered with Hand in Hand.
  • Onboard new families referred to service and build trusting relationships ensuring a family centred approach.
  • Work with colleagues to assess the needs of the families and participate in outcome monitoring and evaluation of the services. 
  • Work with fundraising to assist in idea development and planning for grant opportunities.
  • Keep accurate and up to date records using the organisation’s database. 
  • Attend conferences, meetings (internal and external) and training sessions as required. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant partners, membership groups and stakeholders.
  • Ensure that work is carried out in accordance with all of Hand in Hand’s policies and procedures.
  • Work with flexibility and carry out any other reasonable duties as required. 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Accredited Play Therapy qualification required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in delivering play therapy sessions.
  • Knowledge and experience of direct work with families who have complex needs.
  • Flexibility to adjust therapeutic approaches based on individual needs.

Personal Attributes:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; face-to-face, written, digital.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team. 
  • Strong organisational skills and an ability to manage lots of different tasks at the same time.
  • Proficient in IT packages, specifically Microsoft Office platform.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of practice and confidentiality.
