As the Communications Officer you will champion Trinity College engagement and communications with its alumni, donors, and supporters worldwide.

Post Title:           Communications Officer 

Contract:             Full- time permanent 

Salary:                  €40-45k, commensurate with experience

Location:             Dublin; Hybrid work 

Start date:          November 2024. 

Trinity Development & Alumni (TDA) leads on alumni engagement and fundraising for Trinity College Dublin, Ireland’s highest ranked university. We are recruiting an experienced and ambitious communications professional to contribute to the delivery of key communications for the university’s philanthropic goals and global alumni engagement programmes.

As the Communications Officer you will champion Trinity’s engagement and communications with its alumni, donors, and supporters worldwide through the design and management of a range of publications and online platforms as part of an overall communications and marketing strategy. This position involves creating compelling content and managing digital platforms to foster a vibrant alumni community and enhance Trinity’s reputation.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities specified below are not intended to be exclusive or restrictive and flexibility in the allocation of duties is expected. The responsibilities may change and grow over time as your skills and experience develop to meet the requirements of the team.

  • Work with the Communications Manager in the generation of content and design management of Trinity Today, Trinity’s alumni magazine circulated to circa 80,000 graduates.
  • As part of the communication team, engage with creative agencies ensuring consistent and strong approach is delivered across all communication channels.
  • Assist colleagues in the design and delivery of direct marketing campaigns and printed publications.
  • Play a key supporting role within the communications team in driving the internal and external communications strategy for a fundraising and alumni relations campaigns.
  • Develop social media communication strategies aligned with TDA's goals and objectives.
  • Work with TDA colleagues to create compelling social media campaigns. 
  • Create content for alumni websites and social media channels.
  • Facilitate the publication of electronic digital mail.
  • Assist the events team with planning and delivery as required.
  • Use data analytics to assess engagement and communication effectiveness.
  • Undertake other duties as may be assigned from time to time by line manager.

Qualifications and Experience     

  • Third level qualification in Marketing, Communications, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a marketing, PR, communications, or editorial support role.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing publications, working with creative agencies, and generating ideas for editorial content. 
  • Experience of social media platforms, content creation and data analytics.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing platforms (e.g. Sprout Social, MailChimp) and social media management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office packages.
  • Project management experience. 
  • Experience working with bespoke customer relationship data systems would be desirable.

  • Diligent, highly organised with experience of structuring own workload, managing multiple projects, and adhering to agreed timelines.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with a keen eye for detail. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrable experience of working with diplomacy and navigating sensitive relationships, inspiring the confidence of senior colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • A commitment to ensuring communications best practice, such as through professional development, training, and networking.

Key Relationships

You will be expected to engage proactively with a wide range of stakeholders including TDA colleagues, academics and Trinity personnel and external stakeholders such as donors, alumni, volunteers, and friends of the University.

Professional Development

Your continued professional development is important to us, and you will be supported and expected to take an active part in your training and development. Training will be dependent on your experience and skills and will consist of a blend of on-the-job training and participation in externally delivered professional development. On- the-job may include job assignments, shadowing a colleague, and participation on cross-functional projects.

You will be encouraged to participate in training and conferences delivered by CASE, Charities Institute Ireland, The Wheel, among others. You may also avail of LinkedIn Learning to further enhance your skills and knowledge.
