Applications Open for Law Society's Certificate in Charity Law, Trusteeship and Governance
You are well aware of the changing legal landscape for charities in Ireland. In recent years, the establishment of the Charities Regulator, increasing regulatory and funding requirements – including the introduction in late 2018 of the Regulator’s Charities Governance Code – and developments in terms of funding and competitive tendering have all posed challenges to charities and voluntary organisations of all sizes.
Knowing and understanding the law around charity and voluntary work is essential to good management structures and to ensuring that your organisation continues to thrive while at the same time remaining compliant with the regulations.
That is why the Law Society of Ireland’s Diploma Centre, in collaboration with The Wheel, is offering its Certificate in Charity Law, Trusteeship and Governance from 26 February 2021 (running part time Friday and Saturdays until 17 May 2021). This course, which has a very practical emphasis, will equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain integrity and uphold standards.
Topics covered include:
- Establishing a charity: legal structures & registration requirements;
- Governance codes & regulatory requirements
- Managing risk
- Managing finances
- Board responsibilities
- Fundraising codes & procurement
- Employment law, HR and volunteer policies
- Keeping on top of data protection issues.
The Certificate in Charity Law, Trusteeship and Governance is especially suitable for charity CEOs, board members, managers, lawyers and other individuals working with and within the charity sector.
