We invite you to join us for our specialist workshop for Clinicians caring for patients as physicians, nurses, or allied health professionals:
‘Relating to Patients: Connection, Awareness, Relationship, Engagement: An Interactive Workshop on Whole Person Care’ on Monday 29th May 2023, 3-7pm, at Nano Nagle Place in Cork.
Presenter Information: Dr Tom. A. Hutchinson is a Professor of medicine at McGill University in Montreal, previously practiced clinically as a Nephrologist and Palliative Care physician, now primarily involved in teaching whole person care as part of the core curriculum to medical students in all 4 years at McGill University. Enrolled on the Faculty Honour List for Educational Excellence in 2012, published three books on whole person care (2011, 2017, and 2019), chair of the International Congress on Whole Person Care, 2013, 2017, 2019.
The workshop aims to explore connection, mindfulness, congruence and the communication stances in clinical care. Participants will learn about:
1. An experience of connection and its barriers
2. Have a sense of mindfulness and its relationship to clinical care
3. Experience congruence and the communication stances and their role in the care of patients
4. Understand empathy and engagement in clinical care
During this interactive workshop we will explore through interactive exercises, dyadic interactions, and group discussion, 4 key aspects of clinical interactions: Connection, Awareness, Relationship, and Engagement. The workshop will include a role play of a real clinical interaction provided by participants. We will conclude with participants’ reflections on the implications for what they have learned for their clinical work.
The cost of this half-day event is €160. Certificates are available for all attendees and CPD from the RCPI has been approved (4 CPD Credits).
