The Irish Deaf Society is seeking to employ a motivated charity retail manager based in Bray Co Wicklow, 30 hours a week
The Irish Deaf Society is the national representative organisation of 5,000 Deaf and hard of hearing people whose first and preferred language is Irish Sign Language (ISL). Our mission is to fully achieve equality and rights of Deaf People in Ireland. Many of our services are funded and supported by our charity retail operations.
We are delighted to announce we are currently recruiting for our shop in Bray. We are looking for an energetic and self – motivated Shop Manager who enjoys working with people. This is your opportunity to put your own creative stamp on a new shop and be a leader in the local community.

Hours: 30 hours a week (Mon – Sat)
Term: Permanent contract subject to probation.
Salary: Competitive salary depending on experience € 23,400 - €24,960 based on 30 hours a week
Starting Date: as soon as possible subject to notice and availability of successful candidate

Role Description
Overview of the job
The Irish Deaf Society is recruiting for a Shop Manager for our shop in Bray Co Wicklow.
The successful candidate will ensure the smooth running of the shop. You will be responsible for all aspects of the operation of the charity shop including motivating and managing staff, recruiting and training volunteers, stock management and financial reporting, you will drive sales through excellent customer service and have appreciation and respect for Deaf culture and Irish Sign Language.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Manage and develop the shop in accordance with an agreed workplan and sales targets
- Recruit, train, supervise and manage shop staff, paid and voluntary
- Ensue the shop is kept clean, safe, secure and tidy and adheres to brand standards
- Operate effective stock management systems to ensure maximum profit from donated goods.
- Lead by example in delivering excellent customer service
- Cash handling, cash reconciliation, cash security and reporting to the IDS accounts department
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork, motivation and staff & volunteer satisfaction
- Ensure shop compliance with current legislation and IDS policies
- Promote IDS Awareness and Education campaigns within the shop
- Attend management training and planning meetings and undertake any other duties that may fall under the remit of Shop manager.
Personal Specification (Knowledge, Experience and Skill Set Required)
Essential
- Fashion retail management experience / charity retail experience
- Demonstrate leadership skills and an ability to motivate a diverse team
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Commitment and ability to achieve sales targets
- Respect for Deaf culture and a willingness to learn/interest in Irish Sign Language
- Attention to detail
Desirable
- Retail management qualification
- Visual merchandising and brand experience
- Experience managing fit out suppliers and opening new shops
- Good general IT skills and proficient in MS Office
