The Wheel Welcomes Sharon Foley and Sarah Benson to its Board

The Wheel is delighted to welcome Sharon Foley, CEO of the Irish Hospice Foundation, and Sarah Benson, CEO of Women’s AID Ireland, to our board. The two new directors were elected at our AGM on 1 July 2020.

Before her role as head of the Irish Hospice Foundation, Sharon worked as a management consultant at One2One Solutions. She has also served as CEO of the Crisis Pregnancy Agency and Director of Health Promotion for the East Coast Area Health Board. She sits on the board of Loreto Dalkey Secondary School and she has previously been Chairperson of the Family Support Agency, as well as a board member of Age Friendly Ireland and CORU. 

Sarah Benson is the CEO of Women’s AID Ireland, having previously served as CEO of Ruhama. She recently stood down from the board of the National Women’s Council of Ireland, and she has over two decades’ experience working for community and voluntary organisations, including18 years at senior management/CEO level. 

Welcoming the new directors, Deirdre Garvey CEO of The Wheel said, “Sharon and Sarah bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their new roles. As the CEOs of two of Ireland’s top charities, they understand the challenges facing our members and the wider sector.

"We would also extend a heartfelt thank you to John Evoy who stepped down from the board at the AGM. Thank you for your valuable contribution," said Deirdre Garvey

The Wheel is governed by a board of 11 directors. All of the board members, including the chairperson, are volunteers giving their time, skills and expertise to help advance The Wheel’s mission.
