NUI Maynooth Invites Applications for Masters of Social Science (Rights and Policy)

Want to understand inequalities such as those in income, housing, health, education, criminal justice, environmental justice, child and family policy, gender, gerontology, human trafficking? And how policy could tackle them?
Keen to learn more about the protection, application and realisation of human rights?
Through the Masters of Social Science (Rights and Policy) gain the policy research, analysis and communication skills for a career in policy related work in the public sector, in NGOs or at political levels in Ireland and internationally.
What is the MSocSc Rights and Policy?
It is a taught masters programme over one year full-time or two years part-time. It is placed at Level 9 on the National Qualifications Framework.
The programme involves a dynamic mix of lectures, workshops, case studies, on-line, directed and self-directed study. The emphasis is on themes of rights, equality and inclusion and associated policy topics and agendas.
You are encouraged and supported to be critically reflective in your learning. You will spend two days (Fridays/Saturdays) weekly during term on campus. You will undertake six core modules and a number of optional modules. You will undertake assignments on your core and selected modules and you will complete your Master’s degree with a dissertation.
Who should apply?
- Graduates of social science, community and youth work or broadly related disciplines.
- Graduates wishing to:
- deepen their understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of social policy
- advance their social policy analysis skills
- further develop social policy research and communication skills.
Applicants are required to have an overall mark of at least 55% in an honours degree. Recognition of prior learning/experience may be considered.
Candidates meeting the criteria will be invited to a short interview in advance of decisions on allocation of places.
