Charities Regulator Stakeholder Forum Now Open for Nominations

Posted on 14 Feb 2025 Last updated on 19 Feb 2025

The Charities Regulator Stakeholder Forum is now open for nominations for its second term. The forum is being established on a more permanent basis following a successful pilot phase and valuable feedback from participants.

Joining the forum is an opportunity for charity trustees to share their experiences and insights on charity regulation directly with the Charities Regulator.

The forum is a structured environment for charity trustees and the Charities Regulator to exchange views, information, and ideas on matters of importance to the sector that come under our remit, including emerging issues, regulatory trends, and priorities (for information - policy matters don’t come under our remit). This forum is a space for a range of voices from charities across Ireland to be heard and considered when guidance and regulatory materials are being developed. It also helps the Regulator to better understand the day-to-day realities for charity trustees of running a charity in line with their regulatory obligations.

If your charity has a trustee who would like to represent your charity’s perspective and share insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by charities, this is their chance to get involved.

Membership Details:

  • Term: Members will serve a three-year term.
  • Eligibility: Nominees must be serving trustees on the board of their nominating charity for the entire three-year term.
  • Meetings: The forum will meet three times a year, with the first meeting scheduled for May 2025.

We strive to ensure members represent a cross-section of the charity sector by reference to a charitable purpose, size, legal form and geographical area.  To help us in this task, we encourage charities of all sizes to consider nominating a trustee. For example, over half the charities in Ireland are volunteer-only. Nominations will be considered by a selection committee comprising the independent chair of the forum, a member of the board of the Charities Regulator and a member of the Charities Regulator’s senior management team.

The forum will meet three times a year: two hybrid meetings (in-person and virtual) and one online-only meeting. Meetings typically last two hours, and members may occasionally be asked to review materials in advance or provide feedback via email.
