Limerick-based Charity, Cliona’s Foundation Named as Winner of Health and Wellbeing Draw

Ecclesiastical Insurance Ireland and its parent company, the Benefact Group, have announced Cliona’s Foundation as the winner of the Health and Wellbeing special draw and will receive €5,000 as part of the Benefact Group’s 2024 Movement for Good Awards. 

Cliona’s Foundation is a charity based in Limerick and it provides financial assistance to parents of children with life-limiting or chronic complex care needs across Ireland to help with the non-medical expenses related to caring for their child. The Foundation was set up by Brendan and Terry Ring in memory of their daughter Cliona who passed away from an inoperable brain tumour in 2006.

Brendan Ring CEO & Co-founder of Cliona’s Foundation said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive the news that we were on of the winning beneficiaries of this very generous initiative and so grateful to all who took the time to nominate us.

This money will directly help alleviate the financial pressure for families that are caring for a seriously sick child & struggling with the significant non-medical costs of caring for them. Costs which can amount to an additional €10,000 per annum. We know from the feedback that we receive from families the impact this financial support will make to them, shining in a light at a very difficult time.

This year to date we have helped 71 families all over the Island of Ireland at a cost of €177,500 thanks solely to the support of the general public and the business community. Thank you for making a difference to these families”.

Since the introduction of the Movement for Good awards in 2019, Ecclesiastical Insurance and the Benefact Group have already donated over €550,000 to charities and good causes across the Island of Ireland and are committed to making a positive impact by supporting a diverse range of causes.

This year alone, 420 charities will be awarded €1,000 donations, while 40 good causes will be awarded €5,000 sums via special grants throughout the year, aimed at helping charities in specific sectors. Winners will be drawn at random and the more times a charity is nominated the more chance it has of being selected and up to €500,000 will be given in larger amounts over the course of the year.

Ecclesiastical keeps providing support to various Irish-based organisations, ranging from smaller and volunteer led organisations, to larger charities and non-for-profit organisations, and in 2024 Dundalk Dog Rescue and Little Hill Animal Rescue and Sanctuary have already benefitted. The next €1K draw winners will be drawn at random on May 30, and nominations are now open.
