Upcoming National Biodiversity Week events this May
National Museum of Ireland are hosting two special events this May.
These events are being held to celebrate National Biodiversity Week at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life, looking at citizen science and biodiversity in community spaces.
Both events are free but booking is required. Please email educationtph@museum.ie with your details to book a place at the event.
2pm, Wednesday, 19 May 2021 - Biodiversity for Citizen Scientists
FREE | Audience: Adults and children 12yrs+
One of the best ways to promote biodiversity is to protect what you have and, to do this, it is necessary to find out what you have. Join this online talk with plant ecologist Dr Fran Giaquinto to find out how easy and enjoyable citizen science can be for the whole family and how as citizen scientists working together, we can turn the tide on biodiversity loss.
2pm, Saturday 22 May, 2021, - Biodiversity for Community Spaces
FREE | Audience: Adults and Community Groups
An online talk with ecologist Janice Fuller, who will share some ideas for protecting and enhancing nature and wildlife in our towns, villages and urban spaces. Janice Fuller is an ecologist based in south Galway. She has an in-depth knowledge of the Irish flora and habitats based on many years’ experience of ecological field survey and research.
Janice also has a particular interest in community development and the Tidy Towns movement. She has facilitated the production of numerous local biodiversity action plans for Tidy Towns groups in Galway, Clare and Mayo, and been involved in a wide range of community-led biodiversity projects.
