We Inherit the Past and Shape the Future Unless we are Shaped by the Past and thereby Inherit more of it!

Moving from Certainty about the Past to Curiosity About the Future (Free Zoom Webinar), Thursday, 14 November at 7.00 – 8.30pm.

Here is a question: Which came first, the past, the present or the future?

If you think the answer is simple you might need to think again which is always recommended if not in doubt!  For if the past came first where did it come from?

We like to think of time as being fixed and that it simply flows in one direction.  But is it?

Einstein said that time only exists to prevent everything happening at once and that it is relative and not absolute like we think it is.

And just like time we can think that events and the truth and positions about those events can be and are absolute and fixed. For the truth is “out there” isn’t it?

Well no, the truth is “in there” in our brains.

For our brains do two primary functions for us – interpret and translate the world and the events that happen in it.

So everything we think of as being facts are subjective and personal interpretations of events from the position that we observe them from and what we observe them from and with.

A simple proof of this can be seen in interpreting the following sentence:

I saw a man standing on a hill with a telescope.

Who what had the telescope? You, the man on the hill or the hill itself?

Our brains are a giant and incredible computer and just like a computer it can be, and indeed is, programmed by a programmer – us and all our experiences.

None of us can be certain about what will happen in the future.

So why should we be so certain about the past and the present?

We inherit a lot more than our genes from our parents and ancestors. We inherit identity, culture, creed, religion, education and more, and all of these come from the past and frame our view of both the past and the present whether we are conscious of that or not.

And if we come from that past then we may be doomed to repeat it.

In this free Zoom Webinar we shall be looking at how we can frame the future, reframe the present and not be framed by the past in building sustainable relationships and resolving conflict.

This Webinar is part of an ongoing series to do with Building Sustainable Relationships and Resolving Conflict.

All are welcome and hopefully it will be an interesting and revealing experience together with some light bulb moments along the way.
